However, rate disparity among electric users is still a topic of concern throughout Missouri. Large industrial corporations continue to use lawyers and lobbyists to ink special deals that secure cheap rates for themselves, passing future increases onto to residential and small business customers.
These companies cry foul claiming they cannot afford to operate without steep rate discounts while at the same time their owners use offshore bank accounts – according to filings with the SEC – and support scholarships in the Caribbean, all while Missouri ratepayers are stuck with rising electric rates.
MBEF firmly believes that rate disparity is unfair and Missouri’s energy policy should update accordingly.
We recognize not all entities can pay the exact same rate for electricity, but the economic value small businesses and homeowners have on our state should not be sacrificed for corporate greed. MBEF will continue to fight against unfair rate disparity.
