Help Keep Missouri’s Rates Affordable

The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently published a report that lists Missouri as having the 7th lowest residential electricity rate in the U.S. As of February 2012, Missourians paid approximately 8.84 cents per kilowatt hour for their electricity each month. New York and Connecticut’s residents pay as much as 16.69 cents, almost double what Missouri residents pay.

Missourians Show Strong Support for Nuclear Power

Today, Missourians for a Balanced Energy Future (MBEF) released the results of a statewide survey conducted March 24 – 26, to gauge Missourians’ opinions about nuclear power. Our survey demonstrates strong public support for nuclear power, construction of a second nuclear power plant and keeping open the option of more nuclear power for the state. Help Us Urge Legislators to Take Action and Keep Nuclear an Option for Missouri

On Monday, our legislators will return to the Capitol for the final seven weeks of this year’s legislative session. As they set their priorities for rest of the session, we hope you will join us in continuing to urge them to consider Missouri’s energy future. Despite the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, a Fox News poll, conducted by Anderson Robbins Research/Shaw & Company Research on March 14 – 16, found that a majority of American voters continue to support the use of nuclear power in the U.S. And we at Missourians for a Balanced Energy Future, like you, remain convinced that nuclear power must remain an option for our state’s energy future.

Nuclear Remains a Safe, Clean, Affordable Way Forward

While we continue to monitor the tragic situation in Japan, we remain committed to our belief that nuclear power must remain an option to address Missouri’s future energy needs. Instead of discarding the possibility of nuclear power, we must examine what happened in Japan and work to learn as much from this crisis as possible so that we avoid a similar situation in the future.
