With Noranda Aluminum before the Missouri Public Service Commission requesting a rate reduction citing their financial problems due to the fluid costs of aluminum, their financing has obviously become a focus of the argument against their case made by Ameren Missouri and its supporters. Two things begin noted this week: First, in Jamica, Noranda sponsored the 2014 Noranda Bauxite Community Council Talent Parade series, a huge local party (https://bit.ly/1rHozRJ); Second, Leon Black, founder of the company which owns Noranda – Apollo Global Management – sent out invitations for a pricy birthday party in New York (https://bit.ly/1lNKkr9). Black and Apollo’s finances have become a target because of the complex way the capital firm financed Noranda. “And they want a rate reduction on the backs of Missourians,” one Ameren supporter emailed this morning.
