U.S. Solar Decathlon among Honorees at National Building Museum
On May 11, the National Building Museum held its 24th Honor Award ceremony, recognizing the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. Established in 1986, the Honor Award recognizes leadership in civic innovation. The Solar Decathlon was recognized for its commitment to educating the next generation of engineers, architects, and builders. The Decathlon challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy efficient and attractive. The winning team best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. The Museum also presented Honor Awards to multidisciplinary design firm Perkins+Will and New Orleans Habitat Musicians’ Village founders Harry Connick, Jr., Branford Marsalis, Ann Marie Wilkins, and Jim Pate.
