Statement from Irl Scissors Responding to FERAF Press Release on “Historic Agreement.”

Earth to Noranda and Anheuser-Busch:  the legislative session ended last week!

“Four days AFTER the conclusion of the legislative session, FERAF and the big industrial corporations finally put out a press release calling on legislators to pass a nuclear site permit bill.

Despite months of negotiations, it took FERAF and its large industrial corporation members until 3 p.m. on Friday to finally agree to something. The big industrial corporations agreed to a so-called “compromise” late enough to make sure it wouldn’t pass.

If they had called on legislators to pass a nuclear site permit bill four days before the end of session instead of four days after it, it would be awaiting the governor’s signature today.  But because of months of stonewalling, there is no new law to point to … just FERAF’s too little, too late press release.

The truth is, the big industrials never wanted a nuclear site permit bill to pass, but they also don’t want to be perceived as the ones blocking a law that is important to millions of Missourians.  That, more than anything else, explains FERAF’s theatrical press release today.”
