Statement by Executive Director Irl Scissors on House Utilities Committee

The House Utilities Committee took a step forward for Missouri today by overwhelmingly voting to support House Bill 398, the Infrastructure Strengthening and Regulatory Streamlining Act. The committee took testimony from a wide range of witnesses including, members of the utility industry, labor leaders and small business owners.

The resulting legislation is a sound compromise that will spur much needed investment in electric infrastructure, bringing jobs and economic development to Missouri.  The bill also maintains strong oversight by the Public Service Commission, protecting the consumer, keeping Missouri electricity affordable, reliable and safe.

In the coming weeks, MBEF’s membership will ask both the House and Senate to vote in favor of this important legislation. The benefits are clear. ISRS will create good paying jobs, position Missouri to attract high tech industry and improve reliability for consumers.

Thank you to Representative Riddle and her co-sponsors for their commitment to this important legislation.  Thank you also to Chairman Funderburk and the committee members for working hard to hammer out this compromise. Their forward thinking will be a great benefit for Missouri’s economic future.
