RELEASE: Renewable Energy Goals Advanced in Solar Groundbreaking

Jefferson City, MO – Celebrating another milestone in Missouri energy priorities, Missourians for a Balanced Energy Future applauds Ameren Missouri’s commitment to local and renewable generation as they break ground in O’Fallon on what will be the state’s largest investor-owned solar project.

“A major piece of our platform in ensuring Missouri consumers have reliable, affordable and efficient power sources is a focus on renewable and clean energy options,” Irl Scissors, Executive Director of MBEF said. “Our state’s energy portfolio continues to diversify, affording consumers a comprehensive range of energy sources to power homes and businesses. This new solar project is a next step toward a future of cleaner energy sources in Missouri.”

The solar project will span 19 acres in O’Fallon. Over 19,000 solar panels will produce 5.7 megawatts of electricity, enough to power approximately 650 homes annually. Power will be available to consumers in December.

The project is an economic motivator for the state. Not only does the project bring as many as 70 new jobs to the St. Louis area, but it demonstrates Missouri’s ever-growing commitment to new innovations in the energy industry.

Scissors continued, “Missouri has the potential to draw the eye of major energy industry investments by making investments of our own in renewable and clean energy sources. Ameren’s solar project along with potential wind, and nuclear developments elsewhere in the state, show the range of Missouri’s diverse energy capabilities. These projects create jobs and establish Missouri as a leader in energy manufacturing and technology.”

MBEF announced an agenda in early January where a commitment to Clean and Renewable Energy was a major pillar. In addition to MBEF’s support for renewable energy, like Ameren’s solar project, they also continue to fully support bringing other clean energy solutions, like Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), to Missouri.
