RELEASE: MBEF Celebrates Earth Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Energy Priorities
Jefferson City, MO – Today, on Earth Day, Missourians for a Balanced Energy Future reaffirmed its commitment to Missouri energy priorities, like clean and renewable energy advancements, reduced energy consumption, improved energy infrastructure, and job creation through energy industry investments.
“Earth Day is an important reminder that we should be striving to improve our commitment to better, more efficient energy use to ensure we’re leaving our planet in a better condition to our children and grandchildren,” MBEF Executive Director Irl Scissors said. “MBEF remains focused on advancing our energy priorities to do our part for this important objective.”
While MBEF will continue to make the pursuit of Small Modular Reactors (SMR) a priority in providing more clean energy options for consumers, developments in renewable energy projects around the state, like Ameren Missouri’s new solar park and Kansas City Power and Light’s wind energy program, are celebrated as the kind of investments that will draw future attention from the national energy industry. Additional investments from the energy industry will lead to major job creation and economic development opportunities for Missouri.
Improved energy infrastructure not only creates jobs throughout Missouri as facilities and equipment that are nearing the end of their lifecycle need to be replaced, but these improvements will update the energy grid to provide reliable, affordable, and energy efficient power to consumers. MBEF applauds legislation introduced in the Missouri House and Senate this year to incentivize the kind of capital investments required to achieve these improvements.
Finally, whether its tips to save energy during the harsh winter months or home improvements to use less energy during the hotter summer months, MBEF is working to educate consumers about how to use less power. This information both reduces energy consumption and brings down energy costs for consumers.
Scissors continued, “MBEF is proud to have made progress this year on it’s energy priorities and will continue to work throughout the year to achieve greater results because while it’s important to celebrate Earth Day, our commitment to a cleaner earth must last throughout the year.”
