Missouri Department of Natural Resources increases rebate for appliance exchange

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is offering a bigger rebate to exchange appliances for new ones that use less energy.

The appliance exchange is part of a $5.6 million program for consumers to buy specific Energy Star appliances such as dishwashers, furnaces, air conditioners, washing machines and water heaters. The old appliances are recycled. The appliance exchange started last month and ends when all the funds are used.

The state agency is giving an extra $50 for the rebate to encourage more people to participate. DNR estimates that about 40 percent of the money remains. The larger rebates do not apply to the $500 rebate for solar water heaters.
