MEMC gets federal energy grant

MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. has been awarded a $3.68 million federal grant aimed at encouraging innovative manufacturing.

The recipient is an O’Fallon, Mo.-based company that makes silicon wafers for solar panels and semiconductor wafers.

It’s one of several companies named by the U.S. Department of Energy as winners of more than $54 million in grants for projects aimed at increasing energy efficiency.

Other recipients include General Motors, which received $2.6 million, and The Dow Chemical Co., which was awarded $9 million.
