MBEF Thanks Hundreds of Supporters for Hearing Participation, Urges Vote on Senate Bill 321
JEFFERSON CITY – Missourians for a Balanced Energy Future (MBEF) today thanked the hundreds of supporters of nuclear site permit legislation for participating in yesterday afternoon’s press conference and hearing. The legislation, which has widespread support from unprecedented and diverse group of over 200 organizations across the state and 20 bipartisan members of the Senate, was not voted on in yesterday’s hearing.
“I urge Senators Mayer and Crowell to allow a fair, up or down vote on Senate Bill 321 as soon as possible,” said Irl L. Scissors, MBEF’s executive director. “The hundreds of Missouri citizens, 20 Senate cosponsors and over 200 organizations that came out in support of this legislation sent a clear message yesterday: Missourians want the nuclear site permit bill. This legislation is critical to our state’s economic and energy future, as it keeps the potential for increased nuclear power in our state – and the thousands of jobs and billions in economic investment it could provide. Senate leadership must take note of these facts and act on Senate Bill 321.”
Companion legislation, House Bill 124, has passed House committee by a wide margin. It now awaits a vote on the House floor.
