Ikea rooftop solar array to be largest in state
Ikea, the Swedish retailer coming to St. Louis this fall, will install a 259,000-square-foot solar array on its Midtown store.
It will be the state’s largest rooftop solar array.
The project will consist of 1.28 megawatts and more than 4,000 solar panels that will produce approximately 1,780,000 kWh of electricity annually for the store, the equivalent to reducing 1,227 tons of carbon dioxide, Ikea said.
Inovateus Solar LLC, a South Bend, Indiana-based solar distributor, will install the system.
Ikea has allocated $1.8 billion to invest in renewable energy through 2015. Ikea officials didn’t immediately return requests for information about how much the St. Louis system would cost.
