Department offers $6.25M in funding for new programs under Energize Missouri Homes
JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 7, 2010 — The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is offering up to $6.25 million in funding under Energize Missouri Homes to provide Missouri residents with an opportunity to reduce energy costs, while improving the overall energy efficiency and quality of their homes. Through Energize Missouri Homes, the department has created the Multi-Unit Residential Retrofits Program and the Neighborhood Challenge Program.
Under the Multi-Unit Residential Retrofits Program, the department will award $4 million in grant funds for energy efficiency projects in residential buildings with 10 or more units. Eligible projects include lighting, occupancy sensors, insulation, boilers, furnaces and central air. Projects will occur in residential units and shared spaces to benefit both the residents and the building users. Eligible applicants include, but are not limited to, building cooperatives, condominium associations, university housing associations, nonprofit organizations and limited liability corporations or companies.
Energize Missouri Homes is soliciting and receiving project applications through a competitive application process. Applications must be submitted to the department by July 9, 2010. Application documents are now available on the department’s web site at: dnr.mo.gov/transform/energizemissourihomes.htm. The department will host a webinar on June 17 to provide applicants with an overview of the Multi-Unit Residential Retrofits Program.
Under the Neighborhood Challenge Program, the department will award $2.25 million in grant funds to encourage participating homeowners to voluntarily reduce their energy use by providing them with information regarding how their usage compares to that of other program participants. Program categories include Home Energy Reports, In-Home Energy Monitoring Devices or a Combination Program. Eligible applicants include municipal electric utilities, cooperative electric utilities and nonprofit associations or organizations comprised of such utilities.
