Columbia Residents Discuss Clean Energy Potential
COLUMBIA, MO (KBIA) – Columbia residents are talking more seriously about how to make clean energy more of a reality. A forum was held Tuesday night to discuss the benefits of a kind of energy that would do more than light up a home. At the Columbia Clean Energy Forum, speakers spoke about the necessity of clean energy in Missouri and how it’ll enable many residents to save money. Clean Energy Missouri field organizer Juliana Shulman knows the importance of speaking with politicians’ offices, like Senator Claire McCaskill’s, to voice not only her opinion, but the opinion of others.
“We’re just trying to make our voices heard and make sure that she knows that most Missourians believe in clean energy legislation. Most Missourians believe that we need to take action on this issue, and that we need thousands of jobs here in Missouri and we need to strengthen our national security.”
Sixth ward Columbia city councilmember Barbara Hoppe, Missouri Valley Renewable Energy president and founder Henry Rentz, local Iraq veteran Billy Froeschner (FROH-SHNER) and Rock Bridge Christian Church pastor Maureen Dickmann spoke last night to give their perspective on why clean energy is important for Missouri and how they became fans of the issue. While they agreed that change wouldn’t come overnight, the increased use of clean energy is in the future.
