E-Missourian: Bill Would Benefit People, Electric Customers

Would you call legislation that cost consumers less a utility measure that’s bad for customers?

In the recent editorial, by David Woodsmall, he’s just plain wrong.

Had the 21st Century Grid Modernization and Security Act been in place since 2007, Ameren Missouri’s residential customers would have paid $1.2 billion less for electricity than under today’s regulatory system.

Missouri’s 100-year-old utility regulations need to be updated. This will save all customers money — homes, businesses and industries. The new rate-making model would apply to Ameren, KCP&L and Empire District customers. It would bring Missouri in line with 46 other states which have already updated their energy policies. As a result, they are making investments to modernize their electric grids and creating thousands of jobs in the process.
