Bright work: Solar finding its footing after end of rebates

Dane Glueck, president of St. Louis-based StraightUp Solar, said his company saw a 90 percent decrease in installations in Ameren’s territory this year. “We are getting projects signed and starting to see a pickup, but there’s no question there has been a dramatic drop,” he said.

Solar companies in the region are learning to live without a state rebate program that had helped drive massive growth in the industry until this year. To survive in the new order, they’re searching out new markets, offering new products and services, and downsizing their staff and operations.

And some simply aren’t surviving.
